My Journey Throughout 2020

It was the Night of the 31st and like most of us, I was out partying. We were a group of four people. 2020 sounded so cool and everyone had great expectations from this year. People were dancing their hearts out and then it was midnight. People went crazy, the year 2020 had finally arrived.

I have a habit of making new resolutions every year. So I made resolutions for 2020 as well. I decided to do physical exercise strictly on alternate days and do some medication for inner peace. I also decided to upskill myself.

Well, it all started very well, until everything was shaken up by the pandemic called Covid-19. The state government had declared the lockdown.

I was in the office when we were just hearing about this virus and laughing at the people who were wearing masks. Completely unaware of what we were going to face in the coming days.

When the government mandated the lockdown, all the offices and schools started being shut. The office management was deciding the strategy to tackle the situation. They came up with a work-from-home option for all, as the business had to be continued.

Frankly speaking, I was not that scared by the thought that there was a virus in the air, but more excited by the thought of working from home. I believe there were many people just like me. Our families on the other hand were worried sick, as many of us stayed away from our homes. Everyone in my family was frightened.

Thanks to the government, the essential services were open and thanks to E-commerce we all survived the lockdown and 2020. E-Commerce companies saw a demand like never before. The business was soaring. The effect of Covid-19 on this sector was huge.

Another sector that was high in demand was healthcare. The hospitals started getting flooded. Our healthcare system was getting crushed under all that pressure.

People were panicking and so was I. Reading the disturbing news every day, I was getting restless and anxious. I was alone in my apartment. All my flatmates left for their hometown as they lived locally. For me, the situation was a little difficult as my hometown was in Kerala and I was in Maharashtra at that time. I could only go through flights, which were completely restricted at that time.

I was trying to live as normally as I could. Doing my daily office work, exercise, meditation, and cooking my food. I was also learning new skills online. It all felt great, as there was plenty of time. However, there were few days when it was too overwhelming.

Flights were re-started, however, I was too scared to leave the house. However, by September, I decided to go to my hometown. I was too scared by the thought of being around so many people after a long time. Thank God, I reached home safely.

My family was extremely happy to see me. Their faces were beaming with joy. I safely reached my home, though I was in quarantine for a week. After I reached my home, the rest of the year went great.

Though 2020 was bad in ways, we can’t even express it. We saw numerous deaths, business losses in business, and whatnot. But one thing it did, that it brought us closer to our families. I used to take a two-week vacation twice a year to see my parents. This was the longest time I got to stay with my family, after 8 years.

I am truly sorry for all the people who lost their business or their loved ones and happy for all those who survived.

My journey of 2020 went quite dramatically I would say but it ended well, and “All’s well that ends well” right?
